Interpretive Summary: The summary report presents the main sugarcane pathology topics (pathogen variability, disease diagnosis, new and emerging diseases and disease management and plant resistance) discussed and presented at the International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists’ Pathology Workshop was held on January 23-27, 2006 in Guadeloupe, FWI. Since the previous Workshop held in 2003 there has been substantial knowledge on pathogen variability particularly on sugarcane yellow leaf virus and viruses that mosaic symptoms.

Technical Abstract: The International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists’ (ISSCT) Pathology Workshop was held on January 23-27, 2006, at the INRA Research Center in Petit Bourg, Guadeloupe, French West Indies and was hosted by CIRAD and organized by Jean Heinrich Daugrois and the CIRAD staff. There were 30 delegates from 13 countries. The scientific presentations were on the sugarcane disease situation in each of the delegates’ countries, pathogen variability, disease diagnosis, new and emerging diseases and disease management and plant resistance.
