Technical Abstract: Caterpillars of moths in the family commonly known as “leaf-rollers” are economically important pests of numerous agriculture crops, ornamental plants, and forest trees. Detection, exclusion, and control of these pests rely heavily on their accurate identification. This paper provides a review of a recently published book that treats a large portion of this family in Australia. Because the Australian fauna includes many species that are pests worldwide, as well as several species that are intercepted frequently at U.S. ports-of-entry, the book represents an invaluable resource for those involved in species detection and identification. The book also includes the host plants for many of the species, which helps provide a link between potential pests and the crops they attack. The information in the book will be valuable to biogeographers, ecologists, and action agencies such as APHIS, whose goal is to detect and exclude pests at U.S. borders.
