Technical Abstract: The MyPyramid Equivalents Database for USDA Food Codes, 1994-2002 Version 1.0 (MyPyrEquivDB_v1) is based on USDA’s MyPyramid Food Guidance System (2005) and provides equivalents data on the five major food groups and selected subgroups (32 groups in all) for all USDA survey food codes available for use with any dietary survey conducted between 1994 and 2002. The major changes incorporated into this database, since the previous release, include: data now represent numbers of ounce or cup equivalents instead of numbers of servings; the fish group has been split into two new groups – fish containing high and fish containing low amounts of the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid; a group for oils has been added; discretionary fat has been classified as solid fat and oil; bran and pearled barley are now included in the non-whole grains group as they are no longer considered a source of whole grain. MyPyrEquivDB_v1 includes two MyPyramid equivalents food files that contain the number of equivalents for each of the 32 MyPyramid food groups per 100 grams food; one file contains data for 6,974 food codes used to process the "What We Eat In America" dietary component of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (WWEIA-NHANES) 2001-2002, and the other contains data for the 7,360 foods codes used to process dietary intakes for NHANES 1999-2000 and Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII) 1994-96, 1998. A set of two MyPyramid equivalents intake data files are also provided for the WWEIA-NHANES 2001-2002 and NHANES 1999-2000 intakes combined, and CSFII 1994-96, 1998. Documentation, data file formats, food code descriptions, and model programs to join the MyPyramid equivalents food data to survey intakes and to summarize and compare MyPyramid equivalents intakes to the MyPyramid Food Guidance System recommendations complete the database.
