Technical Abstract: The Fungi comprise a diverse array of taxa that exhibit a great diversity of properties and requirements. These microorganisms collectively occupy virtually every niche in which arthropods are also found, and, consequently, there has been great interest in the use of these pathogens as microbial biocontrol agents. Numerous species have been developed worldwide for invertebrate pest management. In this chapter we provide an overview of the special methods and considerations applied by mycopathologists in evaluating the pest-control efficacy of fungi under field conditions. Topics covered include evaluation of environmental factors (solar radiation, temperature, moisture, and rainfall), preparation and characterization of fungal inocula, field application of fungal preparations, assessment of fungal persistence, and evaluation of efficacy.
