Technical Abstract: Consumers are becoming more aware of the need to use single-use containers that are environmentally sound. This paper describes the current status of plastics and composites used in the food service industry. The overall focus is on starch based composite materials that are laminated with a biodegradable film to provide moisture resistance. The future of the food service industry is discussed.
