Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Beekeepers in the U. S. are faced with pests and diseases that challenge their ability to maintain healthy bee colonies for pollination and honey production. These stakeholders are aided by the research generated at the USDA-ARS laboratories that work on honey bees. A recent change has occurred in the leadership of the Beltsville Lab. Effective March 19, 2006, Dr. Jeffery Pettis was named as the new Research Leader of the Bee Research Lab. Dr. Mark Feldlaufer, formerly Research Leader of the Bee Research Lab, was named the new Research Leader of the Chemicals Affecting Insect Behavior Lab. The mission of the Beltsville Bee Laboratory remains, to improve colony health by reducing the impact of pests and diseases.
