Interpretive Summary: Associations between three panels of commercial genetic markers and quantitative beef traits were independently verified by the National Beef Cattle Evaluation Consortium. The various sample populations were 285 Hereford- 387 Charolais, 310 Red Angus-, 181 Brangus- and 318 Brahman-sired cattle measured for 14-d post-mortem Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF) and subjectively recorded marbling score. The GeneSTAR® Quality Grade test results did not have a significant association with marbling score, however increased quality grade (percentage of cattle grading choice or prime) was significantly associated with substituting favorable alleles of the two markers (TG5 and M2). The association was primarily due to the TG5 marker. Analyses of the GeneSTAR® Tenderness and Igenity TenderGENE™ marker panels showed similar results: strong association of each marker in the panel with sizable WBSF effects.
