Technical Abstract: The physiology, systematics and ecology of the species that currently compose the actinobacterial genus Stackebrandtia is presented. The phylogenetic position of the lone species within this genus, Stackebrandtia nassauensis relative to the taxa in other genera within the family Glycomcetaceae is discussed. Methods for preservation and characterization are detailed.
