Interpretive Summary: Essential oils from different plant parts of 14 Pimpinella species gathered from Central and Northern Turkey were analyzed by spectroscopic methods. One species, P. anisum, of which only the fruits were evaluated, was included in the study as well. Significant quantitative differences were observed between species and plant parts. Pimpinella essential oils were characterized as having a variety of terpenoids and phenylpropanoids.

Technical Abstract: Essential oils from fruits, stems, leaves and roots of 14 Pimpinella species were analyzed by gas chromatography (GS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) techniques. One species, P. anisum, of which only the fruits were evaluated, was included in the study as well. A total of 204 different compounds identified and significant qualitative and quantitative differences were observed amon the samples. Pimpinella essential oils were characterized as having mono-, sesqui- and trinorsesquiterpenoids, propenylphenols and pseudoisoeugenols.
