Citation: Rutger, J.N., Bernhardt, L. 2006. Update on genetic stocks—oryza (GSOR) collection. Rice Technical Working Group Meeting Proceedings, February 29-March 2, 2006, Houston, Texas. 2006 CDROM.

Technical Abstract: Genetic stocks help preserve materials that otherwise might be lost as researchers retire and/or grants terminate. The GSOR was established at the DB NRRC in 2003 to fulfil this function for the US. To date the GSOR is small with 20 genetic stocks and a 353-line mapping population of a japonica/indica cross. The GSOR also serves as a distribution site for the cultivar Nipponbare, the standard for the International Rice Gene Sequencing Project. Four indica rice genetic stocks were developed and added to the GSOR in 2005. It is anticipated that the GSOR will grow astronomically in future years.
