Interpretive Summary: This is the official website of the Midwestern Carabibologists Working Group (MCWG). The goal of the MCWG is to promote and facilitate research and education pertaining to the insect family Carabidae (Coleoptera). Ground beetles are a beneficial group of insects in agricultural and natural habitats. Within agriculture, carabids are important biological control agents of insect pests and weed seed banks. Because of their diversity and sensitivity to environmental conditions, ground beetles are also useful bioindicators of a range of habitat qualities and land management practices. The MCWG was conceived at the symposium titled "Ground Beetle Ecology in the Midwest: Their Function and Diversity in Natural and Agricultural Habitats" presented at the North Central Branch of the Entomological Society of America at West Lafayette, IN in March of 2005.
