Interpretive Summary: Fusarium root rot, a rot of the sugar beet root tip, cuased by Fusarium oxysporum has been confirmed only in Texas, USA, to date. The authors report identification of tip-rot-inducing isolates of Fusarium oxysporum from sugar beet in Montana and colorado and confirm that these isolates cause tip rot symptoms in sugar beet.

Technical Abstract: Fusarium root rot, a rot of the root top of sugar beet, caused by Fusarium oxysporum has been confirmed only in Texas, USDA, to date. Isolates of Fusarium were obtained from beets with tip rot symptoms from Montana and Colorado. Isolates were identified and tested for pathogenicity on sugar beet. Isolates from both states were confirmed to cause tip rot symptoms in greenhouse tests.
