Interpretive Summary: Have positive and negative controls which give a consistant, reproducible results over a period of several months for use in ELISA fir daignosis of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) is always a problem. In this paper, we describe a simple method to reproduce standardcontrols for use in ELISA which may be stored at room temperature, yet give reproducible results over a period of time. The availability of such controls can enable more direct comparisons of ELISA data among laboratories and can enable quality control of ELISA results.

Technical Abstract: Enzym-linked immunosorbent assya (ELISA) are used almost universally for detection of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV). The positive and negative controls used in ELISA vary greatly from laboratory to laboratory. Even in the same laboratory, there ofen is a lack of consisitency over a period of time. We report a method to prepare standardized positive and negative controls which are relatively stable over a long period of time, even without refrigeration. The use of such standards may permit better direct comparison among laboratories when comparing different ELISA systems for detection of CTV.
