Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Sweet Scarlet, a mid-season red seedless table grape, was recently released by USDA/ARS. Appropriate cultural practices need to be developed for new varieties as they are released. Trials to determine the most appropriate pruning method and best responses to gibberellic acid were implemented. Two years data showed that spur pruned vines produced comparable yields to pruning with a combination of spurs and canes. Girdling plus 20 or 40 ppm gibberellic acid significantly increased fruit weight and size. The gibberellic acid treatments reduced fruitfulness the year following its application.
