Technical Abstract:
The traditional use of single mode of action chemicals has resulted in the development of resistance to a wide range of pesticides in a large number of insects, mites, plant pathogens, and weeds. Use of natural biological agents is a valuable alternative strategy which slows the development of resistance mechanisms in target pests because multiple modes of action often come into play. Beneficial micro-organsisms, natural products, macro-organisms, semiochemicals, and genes are all tools in our pest biocontrol tool box. Key
aspects of discovery, mode of action, and development for commercial applications will be explored.
