Interpretive Summary: Males of Lymantria narindra were captured in traps baited with (+)-Disparlure near Sai Yok, Thailand. These males (N=5) had rejected other Lymantria spp. lures offered. This small collection represents the northernmost collection location in Thailand and southeast Asia. The trap lure, (+)-Disparlure, can now be used to further collect and study L. narindra.

Technical Abstract: Using some of the new synthetic lures we have developed for moths of the genus Lymantria, we baited traps and deployed them in several places in rural Thailand. In a remote area of western Thailand, we succeeded in attracting five males of a species known as Lymantria narindra. They were attracted to traps baited only with (+)-Disparlure, the sex pheromone of the gypsy moth. These captures represent the northernmost point in the known range of this moth which extends from Thailand southward through Indonesia as far east as Bali. This unexpected capture of male L. narindra now llustrates that we now have a working pheromone trapping technique suitable for future studies into the biology and distribution of this poorly known tropical relative of the gypsy moth.
