Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Fermentation extracts of an undescribed Tolypocladium fungus derived from a Cordyceps teleomorph isolated from an Australian cicada yield a complex microheterogeneous family of novel non-ribosomal peptides containing two residues of alpha-aminoisobutryic acid (AIB). Complete structural elucidation of two major components of the peptide mixture, cicadapeptins I and II, was accomplished by amino acid analysis as well as mass and NMR spectral studies. Amino acid sequences of minor cicadapeptin analogs were deduced from mass spectra. Cicadapeptins display insecticidal activity as well as antibacterial activity against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
