Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infects swine macrophages. The humoral immune reponse in terms of anti-PRRSV neutralizing antibodies is weak. Apparently, cellular immunity to PRRSV infection is also gradual. A central component for cellular (Th-1 type) immunity is interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). Therefore, to better understand the pig's Th-1 reponse to PRRSV infection, we have investigated serum IFN-gamma levels and the duration of viremia following the infection of weaned pigs with 2 strains of atypical PRRSV.
