Technical Abstract: A co-linear relationship between the Alt 3 region on chromosome 4RL of rye and a rice BAC was established and will be useful to facilitate: 1. Development of molecular markers for Al-tolerance gene (Alt3) in rye 2. Construction of a high-resolution genetic map of the Alt3 gene, and 3. Tagging the potential candidate Alt3 gene in rye The physical size of the rye Alt3 region is still unknown. A potential duplication has occurred between the region of interest on rice chromosome 3 and rice chromosome 4, and insertion of a malate transporter gene has occurred.
