Citation: Rutger, J.N. 2005. Registration of Guichao 2 eui genetic stock. Crop Science. 45:433.

Interpretive Summary: This paper documents the finding of the eui gene in indica germplasm. This is important because the gene, originally found in japonica germplasm in California by the senior author, has its greatest use in indicas. Therefore geneticists in the indica rice growing nations, the tropics, have spent a lot of time backcrossing the gene into their materials. The present material obviates that necessity.

Technical Abstract: The recessive tall mutant gene eui was found in indica germplasm, complementing numerous earlier findings of the gene only in japonica rice. Thus it no longer is necessary to transfer this gene from japonicas to indicas by time?consuming backcrossing.
