Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This paper describes polymer engineering of functional materials using agricultural commodities such as starch. Starch has potential for use as a polymer matrix in non-food, non-agricultural applications. Utilizing reactive extrusion, the chemical, electrical, and mechanical properties of the matrix can be tailored for specific functionality. Starch-based materials are generally more environmentally-friendly than existing products. We report on the development of functional polymers for electroactive materials, mimic materials and graft copolymers in our lab.
