Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: DNA sequencing of the GA and Md5 strains of Marek's disease virus (MDV) revealed several open reading frames (ORFs) that are either unique to MDV or have homologues in only a few other herpesviruses. LORF-10, located in the unique long region of the serotype 1 MDV genome, has a homologue in turkey herpes virus, but apparently no homologue in serotype 2 MDVs. We plan to characterize the LORF-10 gene by identifying its protein product and evaluating its function by using a LORF-10 deleted Md5 virus.
