Interpretive Summary: Population C869 and its cytoplasmic-male-sterile equivalent C869CMS were released in 2002 and are being registrared in CROP SCIENCE as sugarbeet germplasm lines. C869 is monogerm, self-fertile, moderately resistant to bolting, curly top virus, sugarbeet Erwinia root rot, and segregates for resistance to rhizomania conditioned by the gene Rz1. C869 and C869CMS should be useful as sources of resistance to rhizomania, curly top, and other diseases in a monogerm, O-type background. Sufficient genetic variability should remain to permit continued population improvement and development of parental lines. C869 has shown promise as the source from which to develop progeny lines for mapping molecular markers.
