Interpretive Summary: Currently registered insecticides were evaluated in laboratory bioassays for toxicity to tarnished plant bugs collected at 48h following a field application of Curacron. Bidrin, Orthene, Curacron, Regent, Steward, and Baythroid applied to cotton terminals at 0.50, 0.50, 0.50, 0.05, 0.11 and 0.033 lb (AI)/acre, respectively. Mortality at 24 and 48h with treatments of Orthene, Curacron, Bidrin, and Regent were equally effective in the bioassays. Baythroid provided the lowest mortality among treatments.

Technical Abstract: The efficacy of various insecticides on mortality of the tarnished plant bug collected at 48h following a field application of Curacron at 0.50 lb (AI)/acre were evaluated in laboratory bioassays. Treatments were Orthene, Curacron, Bidrin, Regent, Steward, and Baythroid applied to cotton terminals at 0.50, 0.50, 0.50, 0.05, 0.11, and 0.033 lb (AI)/acre. At 24 and 48h treatments with Curacron, Orthene, Bidrin, and Regent had significantly higher mortality than treatments with Steward. Mortality with Baythroid was significantly less than all other treatments at both rating periods. These data indicate that the field application of Curacron did not have any residual activity after 48h.
