Interpretive Summary: Peach researchers from around the world gathered at the University of California in Davis, California for the 5th International Peach Symposium hosted by Dr. Scott Johnson and Dr. Carlos Crisosto, with the support of the UC-Davis Pomology Department. All the major peach producing countries were represented. Scientists from the United States and Italy predominated, reflecting the importance of peach production in those 2 countries. Spain, France, Australia, Chile, China, Romania and Mexico were also well represented. In total 146 delegates representing 22 countries were in attendance. Major topics for the symposium were breeding and genetics, biotechnology, rootstocks, orchard management, tree physiology, post-harvest research, and pest management. Almost 50 oral papers were presented, with an additional 75 papers displayed as posters.

Technical Abstract: The International Horticultural Society sponsors a symposium on peach every four years. Previous meetings have been held in Beijing, Rome, Clemson and Bordeaux. Peach researchers from around the world gathered at the University of California in Davis, California for the 5th International Peach Symposium hosted by Dr. Scott Johnson and Dr. Carlos Crisosto, with the support of the UC-Davis Pomology Department. Major topics for the symposium were breeding and genetics, biotechnology, rootstocks, orchard management, tree physiology, post-harvest research, and pest management.
