Technical Abstract: This study was undertaken to monitor the spatial and temporal variation of trace elements in influent, effluent and sewage sludge from four water quality control plants in the city of Savannah, GA. Concentrations of various trace elements were lower in effluent compared to that of influent water samples. Concentrations of Cd, Cr, Pb, Ni were non-detectable in both influent and effluent waters. Concentrations of Zn, Mn, Fe, and Cu in effluent water were <0.02, <0.008, <0.053, and <0.002 Mg/ml respectively. Concentrations of trace elements in sludge cake were the greatest for Zn, Cu, and other heavy metals. The concentrations of Cu, Zn, Ni, and Cd in the sewage sludge varied in the range of 196 to 227, 391 to 595, 41 to 81, and 24 to 50 mg/kg, respectively.
