Technical Abstract: Insecticides that are used in milling, processing, and warehouse facilities are classified into general groups and categories according to the method of application. Whole-plant treatments are generally accomplished through the use of fumigants and modified atmospheres, which are in the gaseous phase. Aerosols are also used as whole-plant and spot treatments, and are applied as mists or fogs. They are most toxic in the vapor phase and have some contact toxicity as well, but they should not be confused with fumigants. Surface treatments involve contact insecticides applied directly to flooring surfaces, and they generally give residual control. A final category is spot or crack and crevice treatments that are applied to limited, local areas.
