Interpretive Summary: This is a reviewed book chapter to be published in a volume by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

Technical Abstract: This chapter discusses discovery of natural products that could be used as herbicides, as well as modern molecular methods that can be helpful in exploiting natural products for weed management. Natural products with new molecular target sites, as well as those with known target sites are discussed. Gene expression profiling to determine mode of action of natural phytotoxins is summarized. Manipulation of allelochemical production by transgenic methods is also discussed.
