Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Yield reductions may occur as a result of excess water (or salt) on undrained or inadequately drained soils. These yield reductions may be due to factors related to trafficability or root zone aeration in the case of excess water, or inadequate leaching in the case of salt. Subsurface drainage is an effective management tool for minimizing these reductions.
