Technical Abstract: Soil properties that affect the fate and transport of herbicides vary across a landscape to a greater extent than in the small plots in which herbicide studies are usually carried out. Spatial variability of soil properties at a Rosemount watershed, which consists of four man-made terraces in Dakota County, MN, was characterized to determine how acetochlor and isoxaflutole behavior is affected by the variation in those soil properties. Spatial variability of the soil properties in the watershed will be described and displayed on a digital elevation model created for the Rosemount site. Variability in sorption and dissipation of acetochlor and isoxaflutole will be discussed in the context of the variability in soil properties.
