Technical Abstract: The 0.1 M NaOH extract from a Fibric Peat was adjusted to pH 1 and the precipitated humic acids (HAs), recovered by centrifugation, were dissolved in dilute base. The pH was adjusted to 7 and the solution was then filtered through 0.2 micron cellulose acetate filters. Lipid-type substances sorbed to the membranes. The eluate was diluted, adjusted to pH H2 and applied to XAD-8 [(poly)methylmethacrylate] resin. Appropriate manipulations of the resin technology gave four HA fractions that were different compositionally.
