Title: PORCINE REPRODUCTIVE AND RESPIRATORY SYNDROME: VACCINES AND IMMUNITY

Technical Abstract: Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is one of the most costly diseases faced by the swine industries world wide. It is caused by a virus that has been difficult to control because of its ability to persist in the infected host. In this manuscript we review much of what is known and what still needs to be learned about factors that affect the control of PRRS through the use of vaccines. This information will help focus future research efforts on what still needs to be done to minimize the financial impact of PRRS on swine producers, and ultimately consumers of pork and pork products.
