Technical Abstract: This book is a compilation of the authors' extensive works in research, education, and publications for small catchment issues. The book presents material in a non-theoretical manner, but provides enough background for the reader to understand the principles. Substantial additional references are provided allowing readers to do in-depth research on the subject matter. Many problems are presented at the end of each chapter providing educators a useful teaching tool in a classroom environment. The book is organized in a logical manner taking the reader through the hydrologic, hydraulic, channel, reservoir, sedimentation, control structures, fluvial geomorphology, ground water, monitoring, and modeling design phases. The discussions the authors provide in each chapter are insightful and contain practical information useful for even experienced engineers. While parts of the book have been extracted and updated from the authors' previous works, the information is organized in a manner to complement other design considerations within entire catchments. A brief section is provided discussing information systems technologies, which includes geographical information systems (GIS), expert systems, and visualization techniques. Since the book was published, computer technology and hardware has greatly expanded the applicability of integrated tools involving GIS and simulation models in designing practices for catchments. Without the understanding of the underlying principles provided by this book utilized in information system and modeling technologies, inadequate designs will result.
