Technical Abstract: The Chinese black carp have been used for a number of years to control snails in a number of water habitats. It has become apparent to fish farmers that snail numbers, along with the parasites for which they serve as the intermediate host, are increasing in warmwater fish ponds. Since the adult black carps feeding preference is mollusks and snails, it is a very high candidate for stocking into warmwater fish production ponds for snail control. Using the fish as a snail control agent would be better than using chemicals because of the long term effectiveness of black carp and the lack of registered chemicals available for snail control.
