Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A review of efforts to define the cause of citrus blight, a disease which causes decline and dieback of citrus trees. Studies attempting to show evidence of a transmissible agent have not been successful, or were refuted by other studies. A number of studies have shown that blight occurs primarily in situations where roots are stressed, and is compounded by Fusarium solani, a soil fungus. Both laboratory and field studies suggest that altering soil pH and available nitrogen form can diminish incidence of blight.
