The theory and application of modern soil erosion models for purposes of engineering design and soil conservation management of agricultural landscapes were described on the basis of theoretical and mathematical analyses of these models. The scientific basis for creating computer maps of erosion factors, dangers, and past erosion was presented. This discussion provides a basis for creating a strategy (national program) and methodology for soil conservation management of specific lands, using the Ukraine as an example. The theory and methods for development of soil conservation management strategies is presented. The suggested methods involve a process of risk assessment, wherein the benefits of various alternatives are weighed against the potential erosional risks considering unfavourable phenomena such as a drought or unusually wet soil conditions. The issues of soil conservation efficiencies for various crop cultivation technologies and their soil and ecological impacts were considered. The book is written for scientists, teachers, post-graduate students, and specialists in the field of soil conservation. |
