Interpretive Summary: Communication about vascular plants in world trade depends directly on accurate scientific names. Such communication is essential for the exchange of agricultural commodities around the world, yet no comprehensive reference on a majority of economically important plants exists. Accurate taxonomic information about over 9,000 economically important plants has been compiled and reviewed for accuracy. These data include the scientifi name as well as common names, synonyms, distributions, and economic uses. This comprehensive reference will be used by all scientist, policy makers, commodity trader,and persons involved in agriculture and world trade of agricultural and horticultural goods.

Technical Abstract: This publication provides essential reference data for over 9,000 vascular plants of commercial importance throughout the world. It presents up-to- date scientific names for economically important plants. The botanic and economic coverage encompasses plants and plant products that are traded, regulated or important to international commerce. Plants with potential for widespread economic usage or plants having a negative economic impact, such as weeds and poisonous plants, are included. The first part of the book provides the scientific name for each vascular plant and associated information such as common names, synonyms, uses and distribution. The second part lists all common names from part one with their corresponding scientific names.
