Technical Abstract: Waterborne parasites affecting humans includes 16 protozoa, 5 tapeworms, and 9 roundworms. Numerous other protozos, flatworms, tapeworms, thorney-headed worms, and roundworms are listed or described that are transmitted to humans by eating contaminated fruits and vegetables, molluscs, crustacea, fish, frog legs, snake meat, poultry pork, beef, goat meat, lamb, horse meat, and wild animal meat. Methods of detection are described for the most frequently encountered species and a bibliography is provided so that readers can find original desriptions of techniques that may be helpful in diagnosing parasites in contaminated water and food.
