Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: One hundred and five varieties of sugar beet and related germplasm (eg red beet, fodder beet, Swiss chard, Beta vulgaris spp. maritima) were grown as field observation blocks. As expected, a great deal of variability was observed within Beta vulgaris. A number of lines grown were selected for further work including generation and release of seed stocks for mutant characters, incorporating Mendelian male sterility and Mendelian self fertility into sugar beet breeding lines, and evaluation of past and present breeding status.
