Interpretive Summary: The herbicidal effects of a natural product from wormwood, artemisinin and several similar compounds were studied. Artemisinin and several analalogues were herbicidal. All of the herbicidal compounds reduced cell division.

Technical Abstract: Phytotoxicity of artemisinin and several sesquiterpene analogues was tested. Active compounds caused reduction in root growth, decreased chlorophyll concentration, indueced higher rate of respiration, and affected mitosis in seedlings.
