Technical Abstract:
This report presents a comprehensive genetic linkage map of swine chromosome 6 that contains 24 microsatellite markers derived from chromosome 6-enriched libraries, four microsatellite markers isolated by SINE-PCR and 22 microsatellite and RFLP markers previously assigned on other swine chromosome 6 linkage maps. These markers have all been genotyped on the University of Illinois swine reference population; this includes six markers not previously mapped on this family. The resulting 206.0 cM sex-averaged chromosome 6 linkage map provides a comprehensive linkage map of this swine chromosome that will be useful in identifying important QTL associated with improved carcass traits and meat quality.
