Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: In this study, we investigated chemopreventive effect of green tea extract (GTE) and its constituents, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on fumonisin B1 promoted skin carcinogenesis. Green tea beverage is an important beverage throughout the world which contains herbal compounds which may be useful for treatment of diseases. We tested GTE and EGCG, one of the main constituents of green tea, for their in vivo effects on DBA, fumonisin B1 two-stage mouse carcinogenesis model system. These factors, GTE and EGCG, showed significant anti-tumor promoting activity against fumonisin B1 induced promotion. These observations indicate that EGCG is one major agent in green tea for cancer prevention against fumonisin B1 induced carcinogenesis in the mouse model system.
