Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A review of current literature indicates that V. radiata (mungbean) and P. vulgaris (common bean) have similar genetic map arrangements with significant co-linearity. G. max (soybean) demonstrates many rearrangements and only small segments of co-linearity. Duplications within the soybean genome demonstrate homology only between 'islands' within the duplicated segment. Non-island regions seem to share homology with paralogous regions but not in a colinear manner. Linkage conservation is therefore conserved making chromosome landing, based on paralogous regions, possible. Information on genome arrangement and genomic duplications can tell much about gene evolution and gene expression and the evolution of gene families and of, potentially, quantitative traits.
