Technical Abstract: Infection by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii is widespread in humans and livestock. It causes mental retardation and loss of vision in children, and abortion in livestock. Humans become infected with T. gondii by ingesting tissue cysts from infected undercooked meat, and by ingesting food and water contaminated with infected cat feces. In this review strategies to control T. gondii infection are outlined.
