Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: With an emphasis on wheat and to a lesser extent, barley, we describe the series of post harvest transfer stages of grain between the first point of sale and the export terminal. At each transfer point, a document accompanies a grain consignment that pertains to its quality (class, purity, sanitation, and grade). Even at the first point of sale, known as receival, grain quality is often viewed in terms of its export value. Each of the major grain exporting countries or regions (Argentina, Australia, Canada, the European Union, the United States, and the Black Sea region) has developed quality standards. This chapter addresses these quality standards especially in the context of how a cereal lot is assessed at receival.
