Interpretive Summary: This manuscript summarizes the results of part of the second round of analyses performed by scientists participating in the First International Swine CD Workshop. This workshop was set up to compare and standardize the reactivities of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) that recognize pig leukocyte cell surface markers to assign them specific cluster of differentiation numbers (CD#) or swine workshop cluster numbers (SWC#). Investigators fro three laboratories analyzed the reactivity of a panel of 5 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) that had been identified by earlier analyses possibly to be reactive against swine CD11 or CD18 antigens. Final results from testing of this CD11/18 workshop panel established the assignment for 3 of the panel mAb (PNK-I, MHM23, H20A) as reactive with CD18. One mAb appears not to be reactive with CD11 or CD18 whereas the last mAb (MUC76A) appears to be reactive with CD11 or CD18; its exact reactivity awaits biochemical data. Several clustered mAbs were examined in more detail to determine whether they bound to the same area, or epitope, of the CD antigen in the later stages of the second round of workshop analyses. One epitope (CD18a) has been defined within this cluster and mAb PNK-I and MHM23 identified as cross-inhibitory; however, immunoprecipitation with the third mAb (H20A) to define the antigen mw has not been conducted, so it is noted as reacting with wCD18a. These reagents will be useful tools for future swine immunologic studies.

Technical Abstract: For the First Swine Cluster of Differentiation (CD) Workshop, investigators from three laboratories analyzed the reactivity of a panel of 5 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) that had been identified by earlier analyses possibly to be reactive against swine CD11 or CD18 antigens. One epitope (CD18a) has been defined within this cluster and mAb PNK-I and MHM23 defined as cross-inhibitory; however, immunoprecipitation with the third mAb (H20A) to define the antigen mw has not been conducted so it is noted as reacting with wCD18a.
