Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This paper treats the most important plant bugs, or Miridae, found on alfalfa in North America. It is estimated that more than 10 species of plant bugs have the potential to develop on this important forage legume. Of these, the alfalfa plant bug (Adelphocoris lineolatus), pale legume bug (Lygus elisis), tarnished plant bug (Lygus lineolaris), and the western tarnished plant bug (Lygus hesperus) are considered most important. Provided for each of these species is a description of the adult, and a review of their life history, damage, and management practices.
