Technical Abstract: Agro-ecosystem management and assessment will benefit greatly from the development of reliable techniques for partitioning evapotranspiration (ET) into evaporation (E) and transpiration (T). Among other activities, flux partitioning can aid in evaluating consumptive vs. non-consumptive agricultural water use; specifying inputs (boundary conditions) needed in vadose zone flow and transport models; and parameterizing, calibrating, and validating larger scale hydrologic and land surface models. Recently, Scanlon and others developed a new mathematical analysis that can directly partition raw Eddy Covariance data into field-scale E and T. In this work, we report recent progress on (i.) development of open software tools for performing the eddy covariance data partitioning analysis and (ii.) efforts to better understand the way in which alternative intercellular CO2 and H2O functions used to parameterize water use efficiency (WUE) can affect the convergence of the mathematical algorithm.
