Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The two-source energy balance (TSEB) model has undergone several advances recently that improved its accuracy in calculating evaporation (E), transpiration (T), and evapotranspiration (ET) for row crops. These advances were tested using microlysimeter, sap flow, and large weighing lysimeter measurements of E, T, and ET, respectively, of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) that was fully irrigated by sprinkler at the USDA-ARS, Bushland, Texas, USA. Additional variables studied included net radiation (RN), surface soil heat flux (G0), and latent heat flux (LE). Discrepancies between measured and calculated variables were reduced compared with earlier versions of the TSEB. Additional studies are required to test the TSEB model for different crops and under limited irrigation and dryland conditions.
