Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Agricultural Research Service hereby releases for propagation the new apricot cultivar ‘Goshen Gold,’ tested previously as Y117-97-97. First selected in 2001, ‘Goshen Gold’ resulted from breeding California adapted apricots with the ‘Shobaig’ cultivar, an apricot developed in the Hunza region of Northern Pakistan. Flowers of ‘Goshen Gold’ are self-compatible and fruit set will occur without a different pollinizing cultivar available in the orchard. Maturity of the new cultivar is late, approximately 10 days after the ‘Patterson’ cultivar. Fruit are freestone with a dull gold-yellow skin color, flesh that is bright orange, fine-grained and juicy, and with few fibers. Picked at commercial maturity, growers can expect fruit of approximately 70 g, with Brix ranging from 13o – 17o and 0.6% - 0.8% acidity. When picked at optimal maturity for a high quality dry product, producers can expect a dry ratio just under 4.0. The new cultivar is being released as a dual-purpose apricot suitable for fresh marketing and dry production.
